25 Days into 2016. The Mural was finished before I left for Basel. Basel completely recharged my battery. After Basel I was commissioned to paint an office space in Ormond Beach. After a few warm weeks in FL I came back and wrapped up the year in Snowy Utah. I'm working on some new paintings and I'll be hanging a new series called "Kidding Around" next month. I leave for LA for a few days on Wed. and I'll be in Portland the week after that. If you want to see daily work, this year I will be collaging and posting a different flag everyday in 2016. You can find those on my instagram @thevortman
I was counting the days until the end of the year (56) and making excuses for the weeks that pass between posts. All I can say with an early new years resolution is that I will work to post more in 2016. I had a great trip to St. Louis and Chicago.
The cold weather is slowing down progress on the mural here in Salt Lake; but it is progressing. I'll post some photos of that, a drawing that is on it's way to London, another Updated Free Box from Jacob Yeung in Chicago, and a few Street Signs I saw when I was back in the Windy City. I have a lot of work to do before Basel so I'll end with one of my favorite photos from last year. If you want to see daily updates in Spanish you should follow on Instagram @thevortman.
I wanted to get another post up before leaving for Chicago in the morning. I made another paper collage with Color-Aid Paper. I could see more of these showing up in the coming weeks. I don't know why I became so inspired by this banana. I took this picture on Friday and finally broke out some water colors this morning to do some quick versions to get it out of my system. I added more to the mural on 17th and Main. I'll attach a few more detail shots of the progress. I wrapped up the day by test screen printing the new designs I'll be bringing to Basel on bright shirts and white paper.
Almost 2 weeks between updates. I'll try to get it to once a week before I can hope for multiple posts in a week. I had a great trip to Moab. I wasn't crazy about any of the digital landscapes I was working on, but I'll post one of the cloud pieces. I started work on the Mural on 1700S and Main St. in SLC. I also started working with some images of Gene, a barber who works out of the building I am painting on. For the mural, I started with random words and then buffed it to give the background the look I wanted. Last Friday I made these paper collages to help work out some finishing ideas for the mural. I will be back painting the mural on Monday. I'll post updates next week.
I plan to do my best to post regularly in this new format and will pick up where the last post left off. I was working on a new painting and got rained out before leaving for Florida. 10 days down there confirmed I'm not equipped for that type of humidity. I expected to finish that painting upon my return but I haven't touched it yet. Tuesday I opted to work on some digital manipulations of some photos I took of my niece over the weekend, then I played with some of Kelly Neidigs photos from her trip to Mongolia. I'm getting excited for Art Basel in Miami. Less than 2 months away. Wednesday I was working with some new ideas for possible screen prints. Yesterday I spend the day working on a new canvas getting ready for next week. I'll be painting a mural on 1700S and Main St. approx 10'x30'. I'm going to some National Parks over the weekend. The next post will probably include some landscapes. Have a Great weekend.
Yours in Art,
